The Powering Middle East Summit is a strategic meeting for Middle Eastern renewable energy stakeholders. The unique format has allowed public sector decision makers and private sector industry innovators to contribute current issues and points to the agenda, shaping the discussion during the two days. Participants have argued that legislation uncertainties are a barrier to the implementation of green energy projects across the region. In response to the issues raised, the Powering Middle East Summit has welcomed its first “International Law Partner” global law firm Bird & Bird. The firm have helped to shape our agenda to help overcome the legislation and regulatory concerns raised.
Andrew Renton, a leading partner within the International Energy and Utilities Sector Group, will chair the “Renewable Regulation and Legislation” panel session and speak on behalf of Bird & Bird. Bird & Bird are in an excellent position to lead this session which is of major importance to our delegates. Bird & Bird team was part of the initial review of the proposed renewable energy law in Jordan and were directly involved with discussing some of the clarifications adopted by the MEMR. In addition to this the firm has had a role within seven try round one solar projects and continued to be involved beyond round two and three.
Andrew, who specialises in commercial contracts within the sector, has advised on a full range of energy and utilities matters. Renewable Energy technologies Andrew has worked with include combine cycle gas turbines (CCGT), combined heat and power (CHP), biomass and onshore and offshore wind projects. As well as extensive experience working on international projects, Andrew also utilises his previous experience as an engineer to understand technical issues which need to be address during formation, delivery and completion of contracts.
