Imerja’s ‘Video as a Service’ solutions bring telehealth benefits to UK hospitals.

Health providers are increasingly relying on telehealth solutions to continue providing high quality care against the strain of financial pressures and dwindling resources. Government figures suggest telehealth has the potential to unlock a 20% reduction in emergency admissions, a 15% reduction in A&E visits and a 45% reduction in mortality. Technology is now offering consultants and patients the opportunity to connect remotely, reducing travelling time and increasing the useful time spent together. IT specialist Imerja has developed an innovative video solution using Polycom technology, which is bringing doctors and patients closer through the use of high performance video conferencing complete with interactive HD-quality viewing and audio capabilities. The Bolton-based IT specialist is now delivering solutions to healthcare providers throughout across the North West.

Imerja’s success stories include the Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, where the small number of paediatric neurologists in the North West of England resulted in specialists, or their patients, travelling long distances to make a relatively short consultations. Imerja’s Video-as-a-Service (VaaS) units have allowed consultants to dramatically reduce these travelling times significantly increasing the number of patients they see each day. As well as this, VaaS also alImerja Logolows specialists to collaborate remotely, share data and benefit from visual aids, improving the overall quality of communication.

Dr Ram Kumar, paediatric neurologist at Alder Hey said: “Imerja has been incredibly responsive to our suggestions throughout the trial and has enabled the full potential of this innovative technology to be unlocked”. Alder Hey staff agreed that the services had saved time and increased efficiency.

Veronica Southern

Veronica Southern will deliver a case study presentation based on Imerja’s solutions.

In Cumbria, Imerja is responsible for the delivery of The Cumbria and Lancashire Telestroke Network in partnership with Virgin Media Business. This technology connects patients with remote doctors during the time-critical early intervention stage of a stroke, helping to significantly improve the outcomes of stroke victims. The NHS funded project included laptops which were installed with Polycom video software (CMA™ Desktop) allowing the consultant to remotely monitor the examination delivered by clinicians at the bedside, reducing the pressure on consultants. Over 520 patients have benefitted from this telestroke service since its launch.

At the Technology Enhanced Homecare Forum, the Imerja team will be showcasing their innovative VaaS solution which is already making a huge impact to UK hospitals. The forum will also be joined by Veronica Southern, principal speech and language therapist at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Veronica will discuss how Imerja-provided VaaS solutions have helped Blackpool Victoria implement remote assessments for patients with dysphagia, improving efficiency and reducing patient distress.

We look forward to welcoming Veronica to UKTCF this week. To find out more about Imerja’s Video as a Service solution, visit: http://www.imerja.com/services/vaas/. Registration for UKTCF is now closed. If you would like to join the eSE health series mailing list, please use the contact form below:

Ricoh UK expands partnership with eSE’s Public Sector Services Series.

Global technology leader Ricoh UK will continue to support eSE’s expanding Public Sector Series by partnering the UK Technology Enhanced Emergency Services Forum. The forum, co-facilitated with Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, will now benefit from Ricoh’s printing and technical support as well as  including the organisation’s leading solutions supplied to the ‘Blue Light Services’. Ricoh’s continuing partnership comes at a time which sees eSE expand its trio of Public Sector Services forum series to include specialist ‘On-Site’ forums, designed to showcase examples of innovative technology solutions overcoming challenges in public sector service delivery from region to region.Ricoh

Ricoh led research by the Economist Intelligence Unit argues that the most significant barrier to technology adoption in ‘Blue Light Services’ is due to time constraints on Emergency Services professionals themselves. Within the Emergency Services market Ricoh UK provides a wide range of Managed Document Solutions aimed at improving efficiency and secure data management throughout the command structure. Solutions to be demonstrated include Multifunctional Devices (MFD) which are enabled with data security systems to keep investigations secure and ‘Follow-me’ print which ensures high availability without the need for out of hours cover. Staff can spend more time on the frontline by using Ricoh’s scanning and workflow software to free them from time consuming administration, whilst outside the office Ricoh’s mobile solution improve the speed and quality of information input from scene of an incident.

Alasdair McCormick, National Sales Director for Government at Ricoh UK said “We’re committed to improving the sector’s approach to information management and by providing reliable solutions that are easy to use and well supported, Ricoh allows emergency services professionals to focus on what they do best: providing a robust and efficient lifesaving service. Following the continuing growth of the UK Health Informatics Series, and supported by Ricoh UK, eSE’s national forums will be supplemented with focused ‘On-site’ meetings. The On-Site meetings will take place between the main forums and provide a platform to advance the discussions and develop partnerships, this ensures that the series continually builds upon itself, and that industry experts have a chance to meet and learn from examples of regional innovation. More information for the “On-Site” meetings and their locations can be found on the UK Health Informatics, Technology Enhanced Homecare and the UK Technology Enhanced Emergency Services websites.

Telehealth Industry Leaders join Homecare Forum ‘Agenda Board’

eSE is pleased to confirm our Technology Enhanced Homecare Forum format has been based upon the industry-backed UK Health Informatics forum series (You can see the video here), this means the themes for the Manchester forum have been developed by an ‘Agenda Advisory Board’, comprised of industry leaders, which are leading by example and implementing a nweb version PNGumber of innovative telehealth partnerships. Board members have contributed their own issues and experiences, and by working closely with our Summit Director, we have built an agenda that is inclusive of the most current issues restricting telehealth projects across the public and private homecare sector.

We are pleased to welcome board members Annie Thompson (Technology Enabled Care Services Lead), Dr Martin MacShane (Director of Long Term Conditions) and Paul Marriott (Telehealth Lead Consultant) from NHS England. Key issues raised by our NHS England delegation include the evaluation of ROI for telehealth systems, how NHS ‘tariff payment’ systems can block innovation and stifle remote technology, and exploration of the Multi-Matrix TECS model for joining health and wellbeing. Dr Malcolm Fisk (Co-Director of Age Research) joins us from Coventry University and will highlight European perspectives and code of conduct for telehealth services. Joanne Harding (Associate Director of Transformation & Innovation) comes from Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent Partnership NHS Trust, she has identified apps which support self-care and issues around video consultations as key agenda points. Dr Helen Tucker (Vice President – Community Hospitals Association) and Julia Clarke (Chief Executive – Bristol Community Health CIC) together bring practical experience to UKTCF, exploring how telehealth solutions have the potential to empower and promote self-care within a community care setting. The final board member is Trevor Single (CEO) of the Telecare Services Association, Trevor is keen to address the barriers to mainstream adoption of telehealth and telecare throughout the UK.

Our board members will play a key role at forum chairing sessions and building the panel session topics. Remember, all UKTCF delegates have the chance to contribute their own points to the forum agenda during our straight forward registration process.

Telehealth practitioners welcome Manchester Technology Enhanced Homecare Forum.

Public sector delegates from NHS Trusts, CCGS, housing associations, councils and academic institutions have welcomed positively the introduction of the Technology Enhanced TelecareHomecare Forum. Participants are contributing current telehealth issues, which are restricting the implementation of new technology that could improve the delivery of telecare services. Common themes contributed include the education of health and social care staff in using new technology, whether telehealth trials are providing an accurate evaluation of benefits, and managing pathways between hospital and homecare environments using assistive technologies. Organisations participating include Public Health Agency, Sunderland Care and Support, Lincolnshire County Council, Sanctuary Housing, Stoke-on-Trent CCG, The Royal Society of Medicine and NHS England.

Joanne Harding, Associate Director of Transformation and Innovation at Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent Partnership NHS Trust joins the ‘Agenda Board’, commenting “I am very much looking forward to the Technology Enhanced Homecare Forum… I am particularly interested to hear… how the increasing use of mobile technology will play a role in future delivery in care”, Mr Kim Hinshaw, Director of Research & Innovation at City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust added “I am keen to meet up and learn from experts in telehealth care… we need to work towards encouraging others, not just ‘enthusiasts’, to embrace telehealth. Patricia Charnley, Community Matron – NHS Clinical Advocate 2014 for County Health Partnerships believes the forum offers an opportunity to “drive forward integrated care for patient across Health and Social care boundaries” whilst David Barratt, Nurse Lecturer at University of Hull highlights “doubts which have slowed the adoption of telehealth services across care organisations” while “consumer use of health-related technologies, such as apps and wearables” continues to flourish.

The sustainable partnerships built at the forum will help to overcome the issues highlighted by public sector expertise and create investment opportunities with technological solutions developed within the private sector. Delegate passes for the Technology Enhanced Homecare forum are limited to 100, so if your organisation would like to be involved in our Manchester forum on October 16th, please use the contact form below or register your details at www.esehealth.com/register.

TBS GB demonstrates Patient Empowering Integrated Care Services at Homecare Forum

The Technology Enhanced Homecare Forum (UKTCF) has been developed to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness for healthcare providers managing patients with long term conditions, whilst ensuring that patients moving from hospital care feel safe, looked after and in control of their healthcare in a homecare environment. The transition period between hospital care and homecare is an important first step for patients towards effective condition management.  This UKTCF welcome post introduces an organisation which has built patient empowering TBS Logo (2)
Integrated Care Services that allow individuals to move away from the term ‘Patient’ and become ‘Service users’.

TBS GB Ltd will be demonstrating their seamless support services for clinical teams to enable care pathways to transition from the hospital to homecare environments. This service helps to improve efficiency for health providers by reducing hospital admissions and the cost of condition management, while improving the quality of life for individuals with long term conditions. The ICS service provides the condition management software, medical devices, and 24/7 customer contact and support needed for people to reclaim control from their conditions. The service user, over time will become the decision maker determining when they will see their consultant, and how to control their own care records and information.

Wayne Moore, UK Sales Manager at TBS GB said “Healthcare providers face a challenging period of balancing costs against the quality of care they provide. Meanwhile, patients are looking to manage their long term conditions without the need for frequent hospital visits or specialist care. This is where technology enhanced home care can provide solutions by allowing patients to become individuals again, by giving them the freedom to control their own care and improve their outcomes, whilst helping to reduce costs for hospitals and freeing up time for GPs and specialists. We look forward to joining our colleagues at the forum as one of the solutions which can re-shape our long term condition healthcare provision”.

UKTCF will bring new medical techniques and treatments to the forefront of our agenda and we look forward to the contribution that TBS GB will bring to our Manchester forum. To find out more about TBS GB’s Integrated Care Services visit: http://tbsgbintegratedcare.com/.
